Activities to do with children

  • Nature bracelets- Cut a piece of duct tape to fit loosely around your child's wrist and fasten it to them with the sticky side of the tape facing outwards (or use double sided tape and a piece of card), go outside and collect nature items you find on the floor, (eg flowers, leaves, etc) and stick them to your sticky tape bracelet. Once full, you now have a beautiful nature bracelet!
  • Make art out of things that would otherwise go in the bin- Why not let your child turn that old washing up liquid bottle into a rocket or paint on that old piece of bubble wrap and stamp it on to paper to create a pattern? Here are 30 recycled craft ideas for children.
  • Environment bingo- Create a bingo card with different plants and wildlife known to be in your local area, go on a walk and see if you can tick all the things off on the bingo card.
  • Make things a challenge- Make it a competition as to which family member can switch as many lights or devices off that are not being used, explaining the impact this will have on the environment.
  • Get planting- This could be as simple as planting a single plant species that is appropriate to be kept inside or as big as planting a vegetable patch in your garden and involving your child in looking after it.
