Alcohol

Cutting down on alcohol is good for us all (and good for our wallets too – the average person spends £50,000 on alcohol in their lifetime!). Cutting down on alcohol brings a number of benefits that you may not have thought about:

  • You sleep better
  • Your skin condition can improve
  • It can help you to lose weight
  • It can improve your overall health and mental wellbeing.

To reduce your risk of harming your health, it is recommended that both men and women do not regularly drink more than 14 units a week. It is advised that if you drink as much as 14 units a week you spread your drinking over three days or more.

Top tips to help reduce the amount that you drink:

  • Think about adding alcohol-free days into your diary
  • Try an alcohol-free or low alcohol drink instead. There are lots of different options out there including mocktails, wines and beers
  • Talk to your friends and family to let them know your plans, they may want to join in at the same time!

Many people drink to relax after a stressful day or if they are going through a difficult time in their life. However there are many other productive methods of winding down such as:

  • Taking a long bath
  • Reading an interesting book
  • Watching television
  • Heading out for a walk
  • Trying some new activities in your local area
