Community Groups

Why not host some themed events that help the environment? These could include:

  • Litter picks
  • Hosting a coffee morning and donating the proceeds to an environment charity
  • Hosting a repair cafe where people bring in broken items and those with expertise in the product repair them
  • Hosting a second-hand sale, this could include clothes, books, home items, toys, etc
  • Adding climate education/support into your regular activities- for example, if you provide childcare consider reading the children a book on the environment or doing an arts project with them that uses only recyclable waste; if you provide mental/emotional support, consider exploring the concept of climate anxiety and how being outdoors can help with their mental health; if you provide advice on housing/finances consider recommending energy efficiency measures and pointing people in the direct of grants to help with these issues

If you have a constant physical building that you operate out of, you could provide a space in the community to help the climate by:

  • Having a place for people to drop off items that cannot be recycled at home, for example, crisp packets and soft plastics which can be recycled at most large supermarkets
  • Having electric vehicle charging point for the community to use
  • Having a library of goods that people can rent out if they need something for a one-time use, for example DIY equipment
  • Making your building as energy efficient as possible
  • Having a drinking water fountain that is open to all so people can fill up their reusable water bottles when out and about
